<B>1908 $2 1/2 MS65 NGC.</B></I> First year of issue and widely saved, the 564,821 business strike mintage 1908 is also a very popular coin with type collectors. This is a lovely apricot-gold piece that has satiny mint luster over the slightly granular surfaces. A sharp strike imparted excellent definition on the design elements, except for the eagle's shoulder, that is weak on virtually all survivors, resulting, according to Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth (2006) from " ... the dies not being prepared properly."
