1908 1C PR64 Red NGC
1908 Five-Piece Proof Set PR64 to PR66 NGC. Originally auctioned as lot 1647 in the Oct. 1980 Garrett III auction by Bowers & Ruddy. This set has only recently been certified, and the NGC serial numbers are consecutive. The set includes:
1908 Cent PR64 Red NGC. A well struck near-Gem with a bright yellow-gold obverse and a dusky orange-red reverse. The obverse has several minute carbon flecks.
1908 Nickel PR66 NGC. A flashy high-grade specimen that has a nearly brilliant obverse and attractive apricot-gold streaks on the reverse. Pristine except for infrequent pinpoint carbon.
1908 Dime PR66 NGC. A razor-sharp Premium Gem with lovely splashes of peach and blue-green patina. Careful inspection fails to reveal hairlines. A mere 545 proofs were struck, the same mintage as the quarter and half that follow.
1908 Quarter PR65 NGC. Dappled autumn-brown patina overlies the cream-gray surfaces. The reverse has slightly deeper toning than the obverse. Well struck and impressive.
1908 Half PR65 NGC. Apricot and pearl-gray toning confirms the originality of this reflective representative. A good strike, with only minor blending on the right shield corner. An interesting strike-through (as made) passes through the I in AMERICA.

Coin Engraver: George T.
