1907-S 50C MS67 PCGS. Here again is a magnificent Supe 1907-S 50C MS67 PCGS. Along with the 1908-S, this issue is among the rarest of the late date Barber halves. And here again is a magnificent Superb Gem example of an elusive date. It is one of the Finest Known of this date and Mint, with a full strike, satiny surfaces and luster, and delicate russet and violet toning. As noted, the strike is sharp on all the devices, and the only trivial weakness found resides on the upper right corner of the shield. Generally bright and lustrous, the toning is fainter on this coin than on many others in this superb collection. As to the identifying marks, we note a couple of minute milling marks on the US of TRUST and a singular tick on the post of the L in HALF. These are noted only for future pedigree tracing, and this coin is simply superb in quality. Even the ever-present roller marks from the planchet preparation process are very faint, and a strong glass and light are needed to see them making their way down Liberty's pristine cheek. The eye appeal is stunning, and we suspect that this coin is equal to the Finest Known. The current NGC and PCGS population reports note a total of four coins graded this high, with none graded higher of this date and mint (11/04). David Akers, when he cataloged this coin in 1998 noted that he believed that "no distinctly finer example has been seen at auction in years with the sole exception of the beautiful Eliasberg coin which was perhaps one point finer." It is possible that the Eliasberg coin has not been certified, or that it is one of the other MS67s reported in the NGC and PCGS population reports. Regardless, this coin can hold its own against any specimen of this date and Mint. For many years the price of the 1907-S Barber half dollar did not reflect its true rarity in Gem condition. With the auctions of the past decade and the statistical data provided by the population reports, collectors now have a realistic idea of just how rare a given date is in any particular grade. In this ultimate condition there are very few examples of any date to choose from, and if a collector is lucky, a handful of specimens of various dates may appear at auction in any given year. To have a such a broad selection of Superb Gems to choose from creates an opportunity which will not soon be repeated.
Ex: Dr. Thaine B. Price Collection, (David Akers, 5/98), lot 175.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid. This lot is being auctioned in conjunction with a live floor auction by Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers. All final auction and invoice information will be supplied by Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers, and all other information should be considered preliminary. Lot:4248
