1907 Grignon Chicago Cubs Postcards Lot of 10. Dating from the first of back-to-back World Championship seasons (and sadly, for Cubs faithful, the last to date), this charming selection of rare mailers remembers a simpler time in our National Pastime. Those unfamiliar with the set are to be forgiven--it's rare to encounter a single example of this regional issue, much less ten in a single location. Each was postmarked during the closing weeks of the 1907 Championship season, mailed to a young lady by whom the sender was clearly smitten. He writes small notes on the front of each of the cards, explaining that Mordecai Brown "...is known as the three finger wonder," and sending John Evers' card along with the greeting, "To the fairest of the fans." Rounding out the remainder are Frank Chance, Frank Schulte, James Sheckard, Orvie Overall, James Slagle, Harry Steinfeldt, John Kling and Ed Ruehlbach. Each card shows expected edge and corner wear, with uneven toning on versos from having been mounted in corners in a scrapbook (no glue or paper loss). Only a couple show evidence of inconsequential creasing. An appealing look at the innocence of baseball (and courtship) a century ago.
