1907-D $5 MS67 NGC. Tilted Mintmark. This variety has the mintmark tilted or canted sharply to the left with the upright of the mintmark nearly parallel to the left diagonal of the V in FIVE. The NGC Census Report states that just three examples of this date have been certified at the Superb Gem MS67 grade level, but also that one coin has actually been graded finer! We would like to see that coin, for we cannot imagine any example of this date with more aesthetic appeal than this example. A sharply struck example with every minute detail in the die fully defined. Both sides of this Superb Gem have rich orange-gold color with frosty luster. The few scattered marks that are present can only be seen with extremely close examination. An impressive example of the final (and only the second) Denver Mint half eagle of this design. A popular collecting option, especially years ago, is to assemble a complete set of half eagles from the different Mints. With the exception of the West Point Mint, with its W mintmark that has only recently been used, the Liberty half eagle series is the only single design to permit such a set of coinage. This example would be a nice centerpiece for just such a collection. Census: 3 in 67, 1 finer (10/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
