1907 25C PR68 NGC. Ex: Hugon. The American economy faltered briefly in 1907, due in part, to some problems in the New York financial district. Among others, well known illustrator Charles Dana Gibson lost his massive fortune when his New York bank failed. However, these difficulties proved short-lived, and within a short time, the economy was back on course making strong gains early in the next decade, and going into high gear after 1914 when America began furnishing materials to the war effort in Europe.
This is a splendid Superb Gem example with rich cobalt-blue color accented with magenta and antique-gold over glassy surfaces on each side. Even close examination with a loupe fails to disclose any spots or mentionable post-striking defects. This one is certainly in the running for the finest known 1907 proof quarter. Population by both services combined: 13 in 68, none are finer (10/07).

Coin Engraver: Charles E.
