1907 $20 St. Gaudens. High Relief, Wire Rim
1907. High relief, Roman numerals, wire rim. PCGS graded MS-64 CAC Approved. A gorgeous coin with nice high wire edges. A directive from President Theodore Roosevelt overruled Chief Engraver Charles Barber's complaints and made the High Relief Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle a done-deal. Production of what most numismatists believe are the most beautiful regular issue coins in U.S. history began on November 18, 1907. Although some sources place the total number struck at 11,250 pieces, the actual mintage figure is more likely 12,367 coins as listed in the current Guide Book of United States Coins. This issue was released into circulation. That said, many were soon scooped up by the public for their unprecedented artistic beauty and originality. This very choice MS64 specimen is among the amply supply of High Relief Twenties available to today's collectors. With deep, sharp striking detail and smooth fields that are free of bothersome nicks or other marks, this coin would fit nicely into a high quality date or Type set. The color is warm, original, honey-gold that lightens to yellow-gold hues in areas (PCGS # 9135) .
Estimated Value $23,000 - 25,000.
