1907<$20> High Relief, Wire Rim MS64 NGC. When the Mint began striking the lowered relief, redesigned Saint-Gaudens double eagles, a partial wire rim, or "fin" as Mint documents called it, developed on the edge of the coins. When Mint personnel adjusted the milling/diameter combination, the coins produced afterward lacked the wire rim and showed better star definition. This piece shows a wire rim plainly from 12 to 6 o'clock on the obverse, and correspondingly on the reverse. The surfaces are an enchanting khaki-gold. Mentionable abrasions are few, limited to a couple on Liberty's right (facing) leg and the upper wingtip of the eagle. A high-end and attractive near-Gem example.
