1907 $20 High Relief, Wire Rim MS63 PCGS. When viewing a High Relief, it is obvious that the design was produced by a sculptor. It is radically different in concept from all that preceded it, which were coins that were designed by mint personnel. The only previous design that approaches Saint-Gaudens' concept was the radically different depiction of a modified Britannia on the Gobrecht dollar, which was based on sketches by noted artists Titian Peale and Thomas Sully.
The three-dimensional quality of the High Relief is a compelling feature on this coin. On this particular piece, the fullness of strike gives the figure of Liberty and the eagle a directness not seen on any other American coin. The satiny surfaces have a rich yellow-gold color with a slight tinge of reddish patina. Minimally abraded for an MS63.

Coin Engraver: Augustus Saint-Gaudens

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
