1907 $20 High Relief, Wire Rim MS63 NGC. One of the goals of President Theodore Roosevelt was to improve American coinage. With respect to the High Relief double eagle, Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth, in their 2006 treatise entitled Encyclopedia of U.S. Gold Coins, 1795-1933, write: "The aging (Augustus) Saint-Gaudens rose to the challenge and rendered this magnificent design. With a full figure of Liberty walking toward the viewer with the blazing sun behind, the reverse design depicts a bald eagle in full flight above the rising sun. Arguably the most beautiful coin ever struck for circulation, these American classics were coveted from the time of issue, and remain so to this day."
Apricot-gold color adheres to highly lustrous surfaces on this MS63 example. The design elements exhibit an impressive strike, that manifests itself in sharp delineation on Liberty's hair, facial features, fingers, and toes, as well as on the eagle's feathers. A few minute marks on each side are all that prevents the attainment of a higher grade. A wire rim is visible on good portions of both obverse and reverse, though it is difficult to discern in places because of the holder.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
