1907 $20 High Relief Wire Edge NGC MS63
A gorgeous High Relief of the finest order for its conservative grade of '63. The highly lustrous surfaces exhibit swirling medium reddish gold luster. Nicely struck as well, in point of fact fully so, with enough of the design jumping out at you to take your breath away if this is your first look at a High Relief $20 gold coin!

As we know, these marvelous coins were made at the behest of Mint Engraver Charles E. Barber, who did his best to sabotage production of the high relief pieces as designed by the American sculptor Augustus Saint- Gaudens. Saint-Gaudens died in Aug. 1907, shortly before coinage began, and soon Barber got his way, a greatly reduced relief design was employed in late 1907; but 11,000+ high reliefs were made and because soon thereafter a cherished part of America's numismatic legacy.
