1907 $20 High Relief, Flat Rim MS64 NGC. High relief double eagles have been popular with collectors since first appearing on the scene a century ago, not strictly for reasons of rarity -- although they are by no means common in an absolute sense -- but because the beauty of Augustus Saint-Gaudens' depiction of an advancing Liberty transcends numismatics into fine art. These coins are known with two different edge variations -- Wire (or Knife) Rim, and Flat Rim, although the latter is a bit of a misnomer, as most such coins including the present specimen carry more than a trace of raised metal around the rim. This piece has an impressive metallic sheen under pale gold color on the obverse, with the reverse showing a bit of an orange tint. A couple of minor, grade-defining marks appear in the sun's rays above the Capitol building, while a bit of peripheral weakness in the reverse lettering testifies more than anything else to the effort needed to bring the inner devices to life.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
