1907[$10] Wire Rim MS66 NGC.
1907<$10> Wire Rim MS66 NGC. An even finer, Premium Gem representative of this rare and important transitional issue. The Wire Rim Eagle is the closest the Philadelphia Mint came to reproducing the Ten Dollar design as originally conceived by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Theodore Roosevelt. The wire rim feature on this design is the result of metal being forced between the collar and the dies during striking. Potential complications in the minting process when applied to mass production and other impracticalities resulted in an immediate alteration of the original design.
This is a simply extraordinary 1907 Wire Rim Eagle whose surfaces are overlaid in rich satin luster. Random striations from die polishing are seen in the fields, particularly on the reverse, features that attest to the fact that great care was taken in the production of these coins. The soft, frosted surfaces are primarily yellow-gold in color, with suggestions of delicate orange patina accenting the reverse. Even the major design elements are essentially void of handling marks. A spectacular piece from both numismatic and artistic vantage points and a coin that no gold collection would be complete without. This lot will not be offered in the Post Auction Bargains normally available if it does not meet the reserve. Population: 11 in 66, 6 finer (7/04).

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
