1907 $10 Wire Rim MS64 PCGS.
1907 $10 Wire Rim MS64 PCGS.<p>The Wire Rim Ten Dollar is a popular transitional issue that was designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and approved by Theodore Roosevelt. The coins lack a determinant rim, instead they show a small metal extrusion around each side, thus the name "Wire Rim." Even though some 500 examples of this issue were struck by the Philadelphia Mint, it is technically a pattern issue (Judd-1774) as it was never intended to circulate. However, it has long been collected as a regular part of the Ten Dollar Indian series. The surfaces on this piece show the usual satiny finish. The obverse has a fine-grain texture, while the reverse fields show the usual myriad die polishing marks and resultant brightness on that side. Rich orange-gold color, there are only two small contact marks that bear mentioning: a tiny abrasion is located in the lower left reverse field, and there is a shallow scrape in the lower right reverse field just behind the eagle's tail feathers. Population: 157 in 64, 43 finer (5/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
