1907 $10 Wire Rim MS62 PCGS. When Augustus Saint-Gaudens was asked to prepare designs for the eagles and double eagles, he discussed his ideas with President Theodore Roosevelt who selected the sculptor to redesign all of the nation's coinage. Although Saint-Gaudens' untimely death put a halt to the project, he was able to complete the two largest gold denominations.
Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth note: "The 1907 Wire Rim, Periods eagles are the initial concept coins that most perfectly represent Augustus Saint-Gaudens' idea for this coin. These are also the coins that are available to collectors. All examples were struck and given out to dignitaries and VIP's. Saint-Gaudens felt that the heroic standing figure of Liberty should be placed only on the larger double eagle, and hence chose to show only her head and neck, and modeled Liberty after his own rendition of Nike (Victory) from the famous General Sherman Monument (1905). President Theodore Roosevelt demanded that a Native American war bonnet be added to Liberty, a fanciful object for either Liberty or a Native American woman to wear."
This satiny Mint State example, while not a high quality Choice or Gem piece, will certainly find a good home with an advanced collector. It is suitable for a Mint State collection of Indian eagles, or to represent the design in a collection of type coins. Regardless of the collectors' intent, this piece will grace any fine collection.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
