1907<$10> No Motto MS64 PCGS. After Saint-Gaudens completed his work on the ten and twenty dollar gold coins, Charles Barber had the opportunity to modify them in the interest of easier production. This modified design was supposed to be an improvement to allow better characteristics of strike, however, examination of the presently offered specimen will demonstrate that the strike was virtually no different than the earlier Rolled Edge coins. Both varieties are characteristically weak at the center of the obverse, resulting from the placement of the highest design elements on the reverse.
The ten dollar Indian gold coins have an unusual edge device entirely different from the reeded edge that the public was accustomed to. These coins have raised stars on their edge, 46 through 1911 and 48 stars beginning in 1912.
This issue is among the more plentiful of all ten Indians and survives from a mintage of 239,406 coins. It remains to be considered that only a small percentage of these have survived in Choice or Gem Mint State grades. This is a splendid example of the initial production issue actually released for circulation. Some stories have suggested that Saint-Gaudens used his mistress, Davida Clark, as the model for this design. It is also interesting to note the similarities between the profile of this "Indian" on these ten dollar coins to the profile of Liberty on the Peace dollar, said to be modeled by Anthony DeFrancisci's wife.
Sharply struck, again with the exception of the very center of the obverse, which has some weakness. Both the obverse and the reverse have delightful yellow-gold luster with brilliant and frosty surfaces. An exceptional example for the grade, and deserving of careful consideration for its quality.
From The John Michael Stuart Collection, Part Two.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
