1906 Swiss Army Pack Saddle For Mules
Featured in this lot is this 1906 Swiss Army pack saddle used on mules in the first World War. The saddle was possibly marked with a makers mark on a leather strap but has since faded away. On the same leather strap is a Swiss hallmark showing a letter "N" with the Swiss cross below it. The pack saddle is constructed of wood, metal and canvas and shows four canvas covered padded slats that sit on the mule providing extra comfort for extended trips. On one side of the saddle it is marked reading, "P0. 1906 25". The saddle shows three leather straps on the left and right side, as well as two large straps at the front that hook under the mule. The pack saddle shows good condition overall with some wear from use and its antique age but no signs of obvious damage are present. The pack saddle measures 26 1/2" L x 32" W x 17 1/2" H. The saddle weighs approximately 39 pounds.
