1906-S 50C MS69 NGC. To state that this is the finest 1906-S 50C MS69 NGC. To state that this is the finest 1906-S half only tells part of the story of this coin. It is, in fact, the finest business strike Barber half certified by both of the major grading services according to their November data. As such, this piece is doubly important since anyone who is assembling a Finest Known Set of Barber halves or anyone who is acquiring the finest known of 20th century type will need to acquire this coin.
This is an outstanding type coin that would equally grace the highest quality collection of Barber coinage. As one would expect, the mint luster is frosted and rolls over each side unimpeded by the usual impairments seen on these larger-sized silver coins. Formidable eye appeal is created by the gorgeous colors that grace each side, which also brings up the subject of originality, a characteristic that is unquestioned on this piece. Gray-golden toning in the centers is framed by aqua and sea-green at the peripheries. The design elements are boldly struck, with the only softness located on the right (facing) wing where it joins the shield, and on the right (facing) claw. Close examination with a magnifier only shows a couple of tiny marks at the top of the shield, a strike-through (a piece of thread?) at the top of PLURIB(US), and a short, shallow mark below Liberty's eye. Not only the finest business strike Barber half known, this coin also stands as one of the highest quality type coins of all 20th century denominations. A truly outstanding specimen without peers for the type. Population: 1 in 69, 0 finer (11/04).

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid. This lot is being auctioned in conjunction with a live floor auction by Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers. All final auction and invoice information will be supplied by Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers, and all other information should be considered preliminary. Lot:4244
