1906 Framed Photo & Beer Label Red Lodge Brewing
Featured in this lot is this framed photo and beer label from Red Lodge Brewing Company in Red Lodge, Montana circa 1906. The frame shows a piece of paper with a photo of the old Red Lodge Brewing Company building in Red Lodge, and below that is an original Red Lodge Brewing Company beer label from 1906, advertising their home brew beer called Glacier Brew. The label shows a mountain scene with glacier water moving the mountain in a stream. In the top left it reads, "Its The Water" while the center reads, "Glacier Brew / This Beer Guaranteed Perfect / Brewed And Bottled By Red Lodge Brewing Co., Red Lodge, Mont.". The very bottom of the paper reads, "Red Lodge Brewing Co. / Red Lodge, Montana / Glacier Brew 1911-1918" in black lettering. In the early 1900s, the Glacier Brewing Company was active in Red Lodge, Montana. Brewer Peter Blatz, who had relocated to Montana from Milwaukee, founded the brewery in 1906. Lagers, ales, and porters, among other types of beer, were produced by The Glacier Brewing Company and distributed throughout Montana and neighboring states. The brewery was housed in a sizable red brick building with a distinctive chimney, and it was situated on South Broadway Avenue in Red Lodge. At its height, the brewery employed about 30 people and produced over 50,000 barrels of beer annually. Early in the 1920s, The Glacier Brewing Company was still in business, but Prohibition forced it, along with many other American breweries, to shut down.
After Prohibition was repealed in 1933, the Glacier Brewing Company did not reopen, and the building was eventually demolished. The label measures 3 1/4" L x 4 5/8" W. The entire frame measures 10 5/8" L x 8 5/8" W.
