1906 $20 MS65 PCGS. Despite its low original mintage of 69,596 pieces, the 1906 remains an underrated and comparatively undervalued issue in the Liberty Head double eagle series. Most coins offered in recent decades have been found in shipments from Europe, and grade generally from MS60 to MS62. The 1906 becomes scarce in MS63, and very scarce in near-Gem. MS65 and better pieces are rare; only 11 Gems have been certified by PCGS and NGC, and a mere two finer.
The Gem offered in this lot exhibits pleasing orange-gold patina and subtle undertones of light green, along with outstanding luster. Excellent definition on the design features has been impressed by a powerful strike; no areas reveal signs of mentionable weakness. We expect this coin to draw considerable bidder interest, as the opportunity to acquire such a high-grade piece may not present itself for a while. Population: 7 in 65, 1 finer (10/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
