1905 G$1 Lewis and Clark MS66 PCGS. The existence of most of the Lewis and Clark dollars struck was short. Struck in Philadelphia in 1904 and 1905, the pieces made their way to Portland, Oregon, where Farran Zerbe offered them through a mail-order agent and local concessionaires. Later, certain examples traveled with him to other, smaller exhibitions. The 1904-dated pieces that went unsold were melted at the San Francisco Mint, while the vast majority of the 1905 examples never left Philadelphia.
This Premium Gem representative of the latter issue did not merely escape the melting pot; its preservation suggests a charmed life spanning more than a century. The fields, yellow-gold with peach and orange accents, offer strong, swirling luster, and the strike is solid. Beautifully preserved with exquisite visual appeal. PCGS has graded a mere two finer pieces (10/07).
From The Fleur Wales-Baillie Collection, benefiting the Khumbula Thina Trust.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
