1905 G$1 Lewis and Clark MS66 PCGS. While the poor sales of the 1904 Lewis and Clark dollars did not inspire much confidence, this did not stop Farran Zerbe from commissioning a batch of differently-dated dollars to hawk to fairgoers and budding speculators. The former continued their indifference and the latter were wary of yet another commemorative issue that threatened to plunge in value, and so most potential customers thought twice before ordering. The ensuing disaster led to a decade-long hiatus in commemorative coinage.
Many fairgoers who acquired examples cleaned, mishandled, or otherwise lessened their numismatic value, and nearly pristine representatives are elusive and desirable. The shining surfaces of this Premium Gem are primarily canary-gold with a hint of green on the obverse. Each portrait has unusually clear details, and neither side has any offensive marks. With just two finer examples graded by PCGS, it is supremely difficult to acquire anything better (3/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
