1905 G$1 Lewis and Clark MS65 PCGS. Assembling a complete set of classic gold commemoratives is a significant undertaking, and while the higher-denomination issues present some of the largest challenges, the gold dollars contain a few elusive issues as well. Q. David Bowers (1991), in his Commemorative Coins of the United States, notes that " ... among all commemorative gold coins of this denomination, the Lewis and Clark issues of 1904 and 1905 are singularly distinctive for their rarity in higher grades."
This Gem offers strong, pleasing luster with a measure of roughness evident in the fields. The well struck devices are carefully preserved overall, though a wispy mark is noted in the right obverse field. Aside from a rose-violet alloy spot between the ED of UNITED on the reverse, the surfaces are predominantly pale yellow-gold.
From The Fleur Wales-Baillie Collection.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
