1905 G$1 Lewis and Clark MS65 PCGS. A thoroughly lustr
1905 G$1 Lewis and Clark MS65 PCGS. A thoroughly lustrous and intricately struck Gem of this scarce early gold commemorative issue. Hints of rich orange toning visit the obverse, but lighter straw-gold color dominates, particularly on the reverse. This type was struck with two different dates, 1904 and 1905, to commemorate the 1905 Lewis and Clark Exposition in Portland, Oregon; not to be confused with the Louisiana Purchase Exposition held in St. Louis the prior year, which also resulted in two different varieties of gold dollar commemoratives. Among the Lewis and Clark issues, the 1905 is regarded as the scarcer, although reported net productions for the two dates are similar. Encapsulated in a green label holder.
