1905 G$1 Lewis and Clark MS64 PCGS. Only about 15% of the original mintage of the Jefferson and McKinley gold dollars of 1903 and 1904 was sold, but the issues were apparently enough of a success that Congress and Treasury officials authorized another pair of gold dollar issues, this time commemorating the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1804-1806. While the Act of April 13, 1904 authorized a mintage of 250,000 coins, only 25,000 of each date were produced and about 15,000 of each were subsequently melted, for a net mintage of about 10,000 pieces. This 1905-dated piece is lustrous, with light apricot-gold surfaces that show a few faint hairlines in the obverse fields and a single mentionable tick on Clark's cheek.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
