1905-1910: Irish military and sports medals collection



A collection of military sporting medals awarded to Sergeant Major H. Wright Army Gymnastic Staff: two Royal Naval and Military Tournament medals, one engraved "All Ireland Military Tournament Curragh 1908 1st Prize Foils won by Sergt. Major H. Wright", two Irish Amateur Gymnastic association medals, National Physical Recreation Society medal. Royal Life Saving Society medal engraved "Awarded to H. Wright Aug 1910", and silver Irish Loretto Physical Education Society medal hallmarked Birmingham 1905. Sergeant Major Wright was a well known member of the Army Gymnastic Staff and served with them for a number of years; he was chief gymnastic instructor in Richmond and Portobello Barracks Dublin and also trained the students of Belvedere College Dublin. He lived in Rathgar and died in 1929 after a car accident in Wicklow. He is buried in Mount Jerome Cemetery, Dublin. (7 items)
