1905 $10 Liberty PCGS PR65
Sleek mirrors throughout marks this as a first-rate gem, and among the most difficult late-issue Proofs obtainable if the roster of sales listed below is any guide. But first, the coin itself: pristine fields go with satin gold devices, and even the bold stars have satin gold texture to them from the way the die was prepared. For some reason, the mint switched to normal frost-on-mirror reflection to an "all brilliant" finish for 1901-04, but then began to return to their traditional Proof "look" with this 1905 and on 1906 and some 1907 issues. After which, with the advent of new coinage design techniques, the polished look went out to be replaced by matte or sandblast finishes for the Saint-Gaudens $20 gold coins that replaced this Liberty head design. The coin resides in a PCGS holder #3132054 where it is protected from the elements and inadvisable handling; therefore, it will surely delight its new owner, providing many hours of enjoyment and conversation among numismatic associates and non-collector friends.

Only 86 Proofs made in 1905, possibly as few as 30 to 35 Proofs survive, many cleaned or impaired. Recent sales include:
