1904 St. Louis World's Fair Silver-Plated Match Safe
Also known as a vesta case, produced as a souvenir for the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. One side features embossed portraits of Thomas Jefferson and Napoleon Bonaparte framed within ornate borders, inscribed "Commemorating the Purchase of LA. TER." with the dates 1804-1904, marking the centennial of the Louisiana Purchase. The opposite side displays an embossed depiction of the Electricity Building from the World's Fair in St. Louis, also dated 1904. The piece includes rope-edge detailing, a hinged lid marked PAT. APP. FOR. From the collection of Charles H. McCollister, a man of culture, curiosity, and distinguished friendships.
