Many have indifferent luster, and the striking is apt to be average (even after allowing for the normal feathers on the C-4 reverse)." However, that statement makes one appreciate just how special this Gem 1904 dollar really is. The mint luster on this piece is thick and satiny, unusually so for the issue. The striking definition is uncommonly strong also with prominent breast feathers on the eagle and above average detailing over Liberty's ear. Almost brilliant, there is just a hint of golden toning present over the denticles on each side. Population: 141 in 65, 12 finer (1/06).
From The Leslie E.
