THEODORE ROOSEVELT (1858-1919). Twenty-Sixth President of the United States (1901-1909). Roosevelt was also the first of only three sitting presidents to have won the Nobel Peace Prize.
1904 Book Signed & Inscribed, “With good wishes from / Theodore Roosevelt / Nov 1st 1904,” as President, Fine. Fully titled, “The Works of Theodore Roosevelt, Presidential Addresses and State Papers, Part One,” New York: P.F. Collier & Son. Executive Edition, 400 pages, measures 5.5” x 8”, in overall nice condition with some looseness at front hinges.

President Roosevelt Signed this volume of his Presidential speeches exactly one week after being elected! It ending with his May 13, 1903 Address given at the groundbreaking ceremonies in San Francisco “for the erection of a monument in memory of the late President McKinley,” on November 8, 1904. He soundly defeated Democrat Alton B. Parker in the Presidential election, 338 to 140 electoral votes, winning 32-13 States, with 7.6 million (56.4%) to 5.1 million (37.6%) popular votes.

A Bookplate is affixed inside front cover opposite first free flyleaf which reads: “Ex Libris / Robert Durrie / Barton.” Barton was the nephew of Republican Congressman Bruce Barton, an outspoken critic of FDR who represented Manhattan’s Silk Stocking district from 1937-1941 and campaigned to “repeal a useless law a week,” predicting that Roosevelt’s reelection in 1940 would mean War.
