1904 G$1 Lewis and Clark MS67 NGC. To understand the early history of American commemoratives, one must delve into a succession of national and international celebrations, held both in the United States and abroad. The Columbian halves and Isabella quarter hail from the World's Columbian Exposition, the Lafayette dollar was struck to fund a statue for the Exposition Universelle in Paris, and the two Louisiana Purchase gold dollars were offered at that Exposition in St. Louis, Missouri.
The 1904 Lewis and Clark gold dollar, one of two issues struck for the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition in Portland, Oregon, is represented here by a stunning Superb Gem. The vibrant yellow-gold and canary-gold surfaces offer practically unparalleled luster, and the boldly impressed devices and fields are equally well-preserved. Virtually unobtainable in better condition; NGC and PCGS have certified just two numerically finer pieces between them (10/07).
From The Fleur Wales-Baillie Collection.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
