<B>1904 G$1 Lewis and Clark MS66 NGC.</B></I> Two events celebrated on classic American commemoratives have echoes in the modern era. In 1992, a three-coin set celebrated the quincentenary of the first voyage of Christopher Columbus to the New World, echoing the quarter and half dollars issued for the World's Fair that celebrated that event's 400th anniversary. In 2004, a silver dollar honored the Lewis and Clark expedition bicentennial, which has a classic-era echo in the Lewis and Clark gold dollars of 1904 and 1905.<BR> This Premium Gem hails from the former issue, slightly more available in the numismatic marketplace than its 1905 counterpart but a challenge nonetheless. The canary-yellow and sun-gold surfaces offer unusually vibrant luster, and the strike is uncommonly sharp. Beautifully preserved overall with magnification required to perceive the few minuscule flaws in the fields.
