1904 G$1 Lewis and Clark MS64 PCGS. A major peculiarity of the Lewis and Clark Exposition gold dollar, bearing the dates 1904 or 1905, is pointed out by Coin World staff writer Paul Gilkes in an April 3, 1996 column, where he states that it is: " ... the only U.S coin issue to bear single portraits of two different individuals on the obverse and reverse of the same coin." Gilkes, of course, was referring to Captain Meriwether Lewis' portrait on the obverse, and that of Captain William Clark on the reverse. This near-Gem example displays rich apricot-gold patina imbued with tinges of lime-green, along with exquisite detail on all of the design elements. Some faint marks on the obverse portrait may account for the grade.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
