1904 $5 PR65 PCGS. A sharply struck specimen with impr
1904<$5> PR65 PCGS. A sharply struck specimen with impressively mirrored fields that seem hairline-free. Neither side of the coin shows even the slightest sign of contact or improper handling. Breen writes in his Encyclopedia that proofs have a die line from the right foot of the L in LIBERTY, and a "hollow" within the eagle's wing below IN, and this half eagle confirms both diagnostics. Only 136 proofs were struck, perhaps half of which still survive today. A scarce and desirable Gem specimen, encased in a PCGS holder with a light-green label. Population: 4 in 65, 1 finer (7/06).
