1904 $5 MS67 NGC. This issue's original mintage of 392,136 pieces may seem limited by the standards of the U.S. Mint in the 21st century, but the 1904 is actually one of the most common issues in the entire Liberty Half Eagle series of 1839-1908. As one might suspect for a gold coin of this size, however, the '04-P is rare at the Superb Gem level of preservation. Only five coins have received an MS67 designation from NGC and PCGS, and there are none finer (1/03). The representative in this lot is the first of these Condition Census survivors to appear at major auction since 1990. It is a fully lustrous, softly frosted coin whose surfaces glisten with modest cartwheel visual effects. The color is an original orange-gold shade with slightly deeper accents around the peripheries that are only evident at select angles. Virtually pristine, as befits the assigned grade, with crisp striking detail throughout. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
