1904[$20] PR64 Cameo PCGS.
1904<$20> PR64 Cameo PCGS. This issue had a similar proof mintage to others from the early 20th century, with 98 examples struck. This date is the most common date in business strike format, however, is quite rare as a proof. Most numismatists believe that the current population of 1904 proof double eagles is between 40 and 50 coins. The two grading services have certified 102 examples, again more than the original mintage!
This splendid double eagle has exceptional aesthetic appeal and will please the connoisseur. Both the obverse and the reverse have rich orange gold coloration with excellent contrast between the deeply mirrored fields and the frosty, lustrous devices. Every detail is fully defined. The obverse has a slightly hazy appearance while the reverse is clear. There are two different camps regarding this hazy appearance. One camp, lead by dealer David Akers, believes that this haze is the mark of an original proof gold coin and should be left completely undisturbed. The other camp, with numerous members, considers such haze to get in the way of the true beauty of these proofs, thus must be carefully removed. The grading services appear to bridge the gap, and as long as a proof is not blatantly cleaned, will certify the coin with or without the hazy appearance.
From The Greenwich Collection, Part Two.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
