This date's omnipresence is completely unsurprising, as more than 6 million pieces were coined, and it appears that most were shipped overseas for banking transactions. This removal from the channels of domestic commerce ensured an ample supply of Mint State specimens for future generations of collectors. However, one look at this phenomenal example will tell the astute viewer that this is not just another pedestrian specimen of the most common Liberty double eagle. Quite the contrary, this stunning type coin more closely resembles a high grade Morgan dollar in terms of its impact and eye appeal, except, of course, that it is gold! Luscious and abundant cartwheel luster is the hallmark of this coin, although mention must be made of the pristine surfaces and gorgeous, deep orange-gold color.
