1904 $2 1/2 PR66 PCGS. Mint records indicate a modest production of just 170 proof quarter eagles in 1904. Mintages of Liberty quarter eagles generally declined from year to year through the first seven years of the 20th century, and with the exception of 1905 which had the lowest proof production, each year had a smaller coinage than the preceding year. It is unlikely that even half of the original production survives today as a recognizable proof. This specimen ranks among the finest that we have handled in recent years. Both sides exhibit rich orange-gold color and unfathomably deep, glassy mirrors. While not awarded a cameo designation, contrast is such that it could easily have gone the other way. The only visible disturbance under magnification is a series of mint-caused die file marks on the portrait. Population: 4 in 66, 1 finer (11/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
