<B>1903-S S$1 Small S AU58 PCGS.</B></I> Ex: Jackson Hole. VAM-2. A Top 100 Variety. Almost surprisingly, PCGS has never certified a full Mint State example of this extremely rare variety, with just one other similar example certified AU58. NGC has certified one Mint State example, graded MS62, although we are uncertain how that coin compares with this piece. Fey and Oxman, authors of the <I>Top 100</B></I> guide, contend that the mintmark was intended for Barber quarters. While a trace of wear is evident on the highpoints at the center of the obverse and reverse, the surfaces are exceptional, with lustrous light gray color accented by faint traces of subtle champagne toning.
