1903-S S$1 MS64 PCGS. The 1903-S started as a low mintage issue with just 1.2 million coins delivered. Add to this the fact that few Mint State coins survived and it should be easy for collectors to understand why the '03-S is among the most conditionally challenging dates in the entire Morgan Dollar series. This is an attractive near-Gem, as are all high grade survivors of this carefully produced issue. The mostly brilliant-white surfaces are pleasingly frosted and boldly, if not sharply struck in all areas. The lightest blushes of golden-tan iridescence cling to the denticles, and distracting obverse abrasions are minimum in number. We last offered an MS64 representative of this important 20th century Morgan Dollar as lot 7125 in our July 2002 New York Signature Sale. That coin, certified by NGC, brought $4,025.From the Hans Poetsch Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
