<B>1903-S $1 Small S AU55 NGC.</B></I> VAM-2. A Top 100 Variety. The "Small S" or "Micro S" variety is a highly prized variant among Morgan dollar collectors. Its elusive nature is well-documented; Q. David Bowers, in his <I>A Guide Book of Morgan Silver Dollars</B></I>, has noted that the VAM-2 is "[u]sually seen in worn grades when seen at all."<BR> The appearance of this AU55 example at auction is one of the finest in recent memory; only a handful of finer pieces are noted in the combined certified population. The silver-gray fields retain virtually intact luster, and though a degree of wear is present at the highpoints, the remainder of the coin is essentially untouched.
