These Remington antique prints came about through a 1903 contract between Frederic Remington and Collier’s Magazine. Under this agreement Remington would create and retain original oil paintings and sell the reproduction rights to Collier’s.
For the first time the artist was paid to select his own Western subjects rather than simply illustrate the work of others.
Collier’s Magazine reproduced the images as full color centerfolds, covers, and reprints for public sale.
The public was enthralled, and every month thousands awaited each new edition as Frederic Remington consolidated his reputation as America's foremost artist of the Old West.

Remington destroyed over 100 of his paintings, and these rare Collier’s prints remain the only existing testimony of many of those lost originals. In this lot you will be receiving are two original Remington prints in their original 16” x 21 inch frames. The other framed print is an original, 1905, Chromolithograph Art Print of Native American Indians titled Burning Arrow in its original frame and published by the Taber-Prang Art Print Company of Springfield, Massachusetts. This beautiful Lithograph measures approx.10” x 13 inches and is displayed in its original, oak frame (measures overall approx. 15 1/2” x 12 1/2”) which retains the original brass label attached to the lower stretcher. The Image is printed on a canvas textured paper giving it the look of an oil painting. It is copyright 1905 by the publisher. This captivating Image depicts a group of Native American Indian men gathered around a campfire at night. The bodies of both the Braves and their horse are extensively decorated with war paint and the men wear feathered headdresses and carry weapons - rifles, spears, bows, etc. One Warrior stands atop a large rock and has just launched a burning arrow into the air with his bow.
