It outranked the 1893-S, 1895, and 1892-S. It was believed by some that only 10 pieces were extant. Then in October of that year, bags and bags of 1903-O dollars were distributed to the public from a vault in the Philadelphia Mint that had been sealed since 1929. Coins that grade MS63-66 are relatively plentiful today but Superb examples such as this one are very seldom seen. As with all 1903-O dollars, this piece displays rich satiny mint luster. On this coin, the luster is virtually unaffected by post-striking impairments. Brilliant throughout, the striking details are fully defined in all areas. A magnificent specimen and unimprovable in terms of technical grade. Population: 48 in 67, 0 finer (1/05).
From The Banks Collection. Lot:10617
