1903 G$1 Louisiana Purchase/Jefferson MS67 PCGS. The Louisiana Purchase issues, which revived an abolished denomination and displayed the nation's first gold commemorative designs, were minted to the maximum quantity permitted by the authorizing law, and the distributors had high hopes for sales; however, more Exposition attendees were interested in Olympic gold than commemorative gold (the third Olympic Games were held in St. Louis in conjunction with the Exposition). The vast majority of pieces struck were later melted.
The outstanding representative offered here, however, must have caught the eye of an interested purchaser, and the numismatist of today can look upon it with equal admiration. The devices are boldly impressed throughout, and the strongly lustrous yellow-gold surfaces offer occasional canary accents. Exquisitely preserved with elegant and undeniable visual appeal. Neither NGC nor PCGS has certified a numerically finer example (10/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
