<B>1903 50C PR65 Cameo PCGS.</B></I> Device to field contrast on proof coinage was considered undesirable in the early years of the 20th century, resulting in Cameo and Deep Cameo specimens of some dates becoming quite scarce over the intervening years. The 1903 half dollar is an example of a coin that is difficult to locate with any degree of contrast; out of over 400 pieces certified by the major grading services, less than a dozen have received Cameo designations, and not a single coin has been declared a Deep Cameo. This Cameo Gem is a happy exception to the norm for the date, with frosted devices standing out nicely against the mirrored fields. Predominantly white, with hints of light gold toning.
