For example, NGC and PCGS have combined to certify only 26 Cameo pieces out of a total population of 116 coins for the date. The mintage for the year was 154 proof half eagles, and it is universally believed that about 75 or 80 of these coins still exist today. This Gem Cameo proof is an exquisite representative of the date, with light yellow-gold color, deeply mirrored fields, and fully detailed devices that retain light mint frost.
