1902-S Morgan Dollar PCGS MS67
One of the highlights of the Dr. R. Bruhn Collection! An extraordinary example of this or any other late date Morgan dollar issue. The surfaces are smoothly frosted and covered with wonderful speckled gray-golden to purple-blue patina. Each side is virtually free from post-striking impairments, and the striking details are just a bit soft in the centers, as expected. There are no roller marks on either side. In stark contrast to the typically offered 1902-S silver dollar, this frosty Gem is free of grade-limiting bagmarks.

The San Francisco Mint struck of Morgan dollars in 1902 to the tune of 1.5 million pieces. This figure is less than usual for the day when mass-produced series were normal; and the date is scarce in both circulated and Gem Mint State grades. Hoard coins at the San Francisco Mint and in the Redfield Estate explain the relatively availability of lower quality baggy Uncirculated examples. This coin was also in the travelling exhibition of the greatest American coins organized by PCGS over a decade ago. This splendid rarity has been off the marketplace since 1988, and will certainly be the cornerstone of any advanced collectors holdings. In conversation with David Hall in 1988, Dr. Bruhn was told that this was the finest for its issue, and at the time probably by two full points!
