1902-S Morgan $1 PCGS MS65
1902-S Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded MS65. Only faint, wispy die striation lines in the lower chin. Beautiful satin finish, sparkling as when first issued. Difficult to find S-mint silver dollar. Something perhaps worth pausing to study is the fact that all devices were struck with the usual and desirable consistency of this year, that is, sharply by the dies, which then left behind bold elements of detail throughout. The only point that a critic might fault is the hair above the ear; on the other hand, the eagle has excellent breast detail.

The San Francisco Mint's issue of Morgan dollars in 1902 came to 1.5 million pieces. This figure is on the low side for a mass-produced coin like the silver dollar, and the '02-S is scarce in both circulated as well as Gem Mint State grades. Hoard coins at the San Francisco Mint and in the Redfield Estate explain the relatively availability of lower quality, baggy Uncirculated examples (PCGS # 7282)
