1902-O 10C MS67 NGC. Ex: Pittman Collection: The 1902-O Barber dime is a very scarce issue that is much more difficult to locate than its mintage of 4.5 million pieces would suggest. It is elusive in all Mint State grades and especially challenging in Gem or better condition; NGC and PCGS combined have seen only nine MS65s and five MS66 pieces (6/07).
The Superb Gem we offer in this lot is the only one so graded by either service, neither of which have seen a finer 1902-O. Lustrous surfaces see splashes of gray-blue, lavender, cobalt-blue, and golden-tan distributed over the obverse, and cobalt-blue, lavender, and golden-tan patination around the reverse borders. A powerful strike emboldens the design elements, and just a couple of trivial marks are noted on the obverse. A fabulous coin with an impressive pedigree!
Ex: John Jay Pittman Collection (David Akers, 10/97), lot 702, which realized $5,225.
From The Belle Glade Collection, Part Two.

Coin Engraver: Charles E.
