1902 25C MS67 PCGS. Lavish aquamarine, dove-gray, and
1902<25C> MS67 PCGS. Lavish aquamarine, dove-gray, and pumpkin-gold toning ensures the eye appeal of this lustrous Superb Gem. Well struck, since incompleteness is limited to the base of the fletchings. The fields are close to pristine, and the portrait is also undisturbed by contact. This magnificent type coin is also of interest to the specialist, since as of (6/06), only three other pieces have been certified as MS67 with none finer by the combined forces of NGC and PCGS. Among Barber quarter issues, only the 1899 has a higher mintage. However, contemporary collectors appear to have ignored the series. It later gained favor when stores began selling coin holders, but by then, only well circulated examples were available. A small number of Mint State pieces were presumably set aside by forward-seeing numismatists, such as Wayte Raymond. But at the MS67 level, the 1902 actually has a lower PCGS and NGC population than the famous 1901-S series key.
